What is Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga?

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a dynamic form of Hatha Yoga. Ashtanga (astau means eight) refers to eight yoga elements: yama, nyama, pranayama, asana, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, samadhi). Vinyasa refers to sequential movements synchronized with breathing, due to which you can smoothly change asanas. The practice is conducted along the rhythm of the energizing ujjayi breathing.

Ashtanga is a comprehensive practice which:
  • purifies and heals your body
  • develops your body strength and flexibility
  • helps you achieve better distance and concentration
  • trengthens your heart and calms you down
  • helps you combat stress
  • develops both bodily and spiritual elements of your life
Of all yoga kinds, Ashtanga is the most valuable and efficient for your body. Equally advantageous for body and mind, Ashtanga has become the favourite yoga practice among various social groups, the range extending from Hollywood stars to ordinary people. It can be practiced by everyone, regardless of age and sex. Spiritually, Ashtanga is a longlasting process of developing self-awareness, which leads to gaining power, knowledge, and freedom.

Advanced Ashtanga practice is indeed physically demanding; however, this does not exclude anyone from practicing. No deadlines are set to attain more difficult elements of the practice; most importantly, those of you who start practicing should focus primarily not on fitness but on the proper attitude qualities such as persistence, motivation, and willingness to improve your life. Do not focus on the awaited outcome; keep on practicing. You will finally attain what you expect.
